“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street. Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” —Coco Chanel
Coco does it again! This is the perfect quote to welcome you into the this week’s Cold Shoulder Series, an exclusive backyard photoshoot with my iPhone, photographed by my mother lol! It is officially my 7th week in quarantine since the Covid-19 pandemic has swept across the globe. For many of us, that means being locked in the house, laptop in hand for working from home, constant masked trips to the grocery store, and of course Tik Tok.
It’s been an extremely tough road. I’ve lost friends and family due the outbreak, I know many who are unemployed and hurting, and even more who are stuck in place due to travel regulations and are barely making it by – no one could have expected anything like this. I will say that the reality of all our global situation has still managed to bring me joy. Though I know it’s hard, it is so important to still acknowledge gratitude, find moments of positivity, and most importantly stay rooted in God. Faith in not what we see but what we believe. Times are scary but God is always in control.
I believe the American people are resilient and have also started to find the good in all of this. Thought things have been trying, we’ve also seen a huge spike in creativity and innovation! People are using social media for new businesses, interesting videos, creative content, cooking, DIY experiences and so much more! I’ve even used this time to write a book!! — Shameless plug, my new book “Shades: A Collection of Poetry Dedicated to the Black Woman” will be coming out this September!! Stay tuned —- I’ve also had time to think of fun Spring looks for when they eventually open outside again!
Speaking of looks, this series is dedicated to the single shoulder crop sweater! From classy to cool to a little mix of both, here’s a 3-part inspiration spread for you to style any top or look with a pop of color and change of pants/or shoes!
